Ritual Experts and Participants in the Ancient Near East and the Hebrew Bible
2020
AbstractThe chapter summarizes the roles and tasks of ritual experts and participants within the Hebrew Bible and its cultural environment. The first part reflects on the responsibilities of the kings, the priests, and the priestesses within the ancient Near East (Mesopotamia, Mari, Hittite Anatolia) and ancient Egypt. Then the chapter turns to the concepts of the Hebrew Bible. The second part demonstrates how the priests and Levites take care for the rituals, the sacrifices, purity, teaching, and administration. Neutrons detect order in glasses
2005
The first glassy material was probably made in ancient Egypt some 4500 years ago, so the fact that the structure of glass is still one of the biggest puzzles in physics may come as a surprise. When a liquid is cooled very quickly, the atoms do not have time to arrange themselves into an ordered crystalline solid. Instead, the super cooled liquid falls out of equilibrium and into a disordered amorphous network, more commonly known as a glass.
Una propuesta para trabajar la proporción desde el arte
2013
[EN] We present a proposal addressed to students of the first courses of ESO. Through these activities, pupils will work concepts related with proportionality. Our proposal is developed along art history, the students will acquire skills related with proportionality through the uses the artists have done throughout history. Through a route beginning in ancient Egypt and ending in today Athens, students will act as the artists, architects or even tour guides to deal with technical problems and solve them mathematically. Some of the activities have been already implemented in the project Estalmat CV (a mathematic stimulation program for talented students) and later adapted to a conventional c…

2020
Abstract Ethnopharmacological relevance Ancient Egyptian texts only offer glimpses into their conceptual understandings of the inner-body and illness manifestation. Explanations of how prescribed materia medica were believed to work are rare and obscure, often resulting in modern approximations for ancient terminology such as ‘ra-ib’—an ancient Egyptian classification predominantly translated as ‘stomach’—leading to misunderstandings of historical texts, and therefore their use of pharmacology. Aim of the study To investigate the ra-ib and the explanatory models of illness from the Egyptian perspective, and to explore the link between these and the prescribed selection of materia medica. To…
